Fissure Sealants

Fissure Sealants are an effective way of minimizing the risk of holes on your back teeth.  A tooth is made up of little lines on your teeth called fissures.  Bacteria can lodge on these and cause cavities.  We can fill up those little lines, which will reduce the risk of holes developing.

Your dentist will advise if they think sealants are appropriate.  At your appointment the tooth is thoroughly cleaned. An etching solution is placed onto the tooth which helps roughen it up and helps the sealant bond to the tooth. The tooth is rinsed and dried. Sealant is painted on the enamel of the tooth and a special light is used to help the sealant harden.
